Christine Fonfe arrives. Christine has come down to our Mirissa office with two briefs. As an experienced swimming instructor, she is keen to get a small swimming club underway. Sri Lankan people in general are very poor swimmers and the idea is that by teaching children to swim you may restore some confidence in the sea and water in general. In any case, we think the children will have a lot of fun. A local hotelier with destroyed hotel with a pool is happy to lend us his pool in the short term. There are some government regulations to work around, but if she can, she will start very soon. Watch this site.

Christine is also going to meet the Woman's Chamber of Commerce in Matara with a view to providing the equipment they need to get small businesses up and running. This organisation have carried out a survey to assess the damage on woman's livelihoods and have thousands of cases of woman who have lost sewing machines, computers and any number of small craft tools etc... We will keep you posted on this and any other projects down here.
