Brian Bankrolls Women’s First Two Months Swimming at Lighthouse Community PoolThis Project has only survived and continued to operate through the kindness and generosity of people, some of whom I only meet for a few moments in passing. Meeting them really makes my day.
Take Brian Maclean. He was in Sri Lanka staying at the Insight Hotel for just two days and happened to notice some of our girls and women having their very first swimming lesson. He approached us and asked me what we were doing and why. Needless to say, he got the full brief! I told him that we were planning to rent every Monday at a new community swimming pool that would be opening shortly in Galle. Brian asked how much this would cost and, on being told, donated the first two months hire of the pool right there and then. Now there goes a true Samaritan. In our first week of operation following the official opening of the Galle Lighthouse Community Pool, we had 50 non-swimmers register for lessons. Thank you Brian. You have just made drowning history for 50 women and girls who will probably go on and eventually teach their own children to swim too. |
